It’s not a pipe, it’s a PICTURE of a pipe. And a bubble pipe at that.

My goofy, colorful tribute to surrealist René Magritte’s The Treachery of Images.

As someone with a longtime interest in visual rhetoric, I have always loved the meaning behind The Treachery of Images. When the idea sprang into my head to do a watercolor version but with a bubble pipe instead of a tobacco pipe, I can’t say that I didn’t delight myself.

I may be forty, but I still love colorful, supposedly “childish” things, including bubbles, bubble wands, and bubble pipes.

I come by it honestly; my mom loves to blow her bubble gun while riding her motorcycle (well, technically a trike) through parades.

I hope this piece brings a bit of color and joy to your everyday, as it has mine.
